Teacup Poodles and Toy Poodles are great for families or older couples, and especially ideal for families that need hypoallergenic dogs. TOY POODLES CHARACTERISTICS AND TRAITS
Poodles are among the most popular dogs in the United States. They are intelligent, affectionate, and enthusiastic pups, clad in an beautiful soft coat. Most poodles typically become beloved family members in a short amount of time and they can live very long lives. Poodles are known for being extremely intelligent and can be stubborn. We recommend training your teacup poodle from the moment you bring them home to make sure your poodle puppy is going to be well behaved thoughout his life. Toy Poodles are so tiny they can get hurt easily so families with small children need to take extra care to make sure your teacup poodle is safe.
Toy Poodles come in all colors; red, white, black, blue, brown, cafe au' lait, blue, white and red parti, chocolate and white parti, black and white parti, or many other variants. They can even have phantom coats, or merle coats, or tri-colored coats etc. Because toy poodle puppies have such a wide variety of colors they are beloved for the various doodle breeds. We have several doodle breeds we breed for their hypoallergenic coats they get from the toy poodle. There are many small dog breeds, but if you're looking for a smart hypoallergenic dog we definitely recommend our Teacup poodles and toy poodle puppies!
Toy Poodle & Teacup Poodle Life Expectancy
Toy Poodles & Teacup Poodles have a life expectancy of between 12-15 years. Smaller dogs generally live longer than larger dogs, and as long as they're taken care of these sweethearts will be around a long time.
TOY POODLE SHEDDING & ALLERGIES
Tea cup poodles are very sweet and have beautiful hypoallergenic coats which means if you have allergies and want a dog, a toy poodle is a great choice. Unless you plan to keep your Poodle clipped in a short trim, you will need to learn how to brush your toy poodle daily to keep his or her coat from matting. If you do not brush and comb your tea cup poodle all the way down to the skin, the hair will mat near the roots and will have to be shaved off to start all over with new growth. Most pet owners opt to keep the Poodle in a shorter trim. Some owners learn to do this clipping and trimming themselves, while others choose to take their dog to a professional dog groomer every four to six weeks for a bath, grooming, and nail trim. The breed's relatively nonshedding coat makes the breed a good choice for people with allergies.
STANDARD VS TOY POODLES
The Standard poodle is the largest dog of the breed, and they stand at least 15 inches at the shoulder (most are between 20 and 23 inches tall) and are estimated to weigh between 45 and 80 pounds. The Moyen poodle is the next size smaller ranging from around 30 lbs up to 45 lbs; then we have the Mini poodle that generally ranges from about 15 lbs up to 30 lbs. And finally we have our Toy Poodle that is estimated to be between 5-15 lbs.
Because the American Kennel Club (AKC) of America doesn't have a smaller sizing than Toy poodle all AKC registered poodles that are under 15 lbs are generally classified as Toy Poodles. Because we like our smaller breeds we especially like our Teacup puppies so we also offer Teacup Poodles which are registered as Toy Poodles but we estimate their sizing to be under 10 lbs fully grown.
Understanding Sizes
Here are our estimated sizes listed:
- Teacup Poodle : 5 to 10 pounds fully grown.
- Toy Poodle : 7 to 15 pounds full grown.
- Mini Poodle : 15 to 30 pounds full grown.
- Moyen Poodle : 30 to 45 pounds full grown.
- Standard Poodle: 45-80 pounds full grown.
Poodle Health
Most Toy Poodles live long, happy, healthy lives thanks to the efforts of dedicated, responsible breeders who routinely test all our breeding dogs. As with all breeds, however, some health issues can occur, including hip dysplasia and several eye disorders. Idiopathic epilepsy, sebaceous adenitis, von Willebrand's disease, and immune-mediated disorders are also seen in the breed on occasion. We care about providing healthy dogs and make sure all our dogs are genetically tested before breeding. This way you get the comfort of a healthy happy dog.
Training your Toy Poodle Puppy
Toy Poodles are extremely intelligent and are easily trained. They are agile and graceful as well as smart, and they enjoy and excel in a variety of canine sports, including agility, obedience, and tracking. They are excellent water-retrievers and also compete in dock diving and retriever hunt tests. Toy poodles are very people-oriented, and if your training routines are fun and positive, they are quick to please you. Just be consistent with what you ask and they will learn quickly.
Most Tea cup poodles love their training once and get excited for training time because it stimulates their mind. Poodle puppies are very smart and with enough love and care you will have a very loveable, loyal, friendly and talented little buddy.
Most Toy Poodles make great watchdogs -- they will bark sharply at the door and they tend to be reserved (though polite and non-aggressive) with strangers. But there are also individuals like my dog Buffy, "who never met a stranger." (She loves everyone.) With other dogs and cats, Toy Poodles are peaceful and accepting.
Besides the regular clipping, they do need daily exercise, as they are lively dogs. And they do need a lot of daily companionship. Poodles can suffer from loneliness and separation anxiety if left alone too much. Toy poodles also learn "patterns" so quickly that they tend to anticipate everything you're going to do next, which can be disconcerting.
Teacup Poodles expect their routines to always be the same, and they can get flustered if you change things. Changing things often however can help them learn to adapt and adjust as things change. Similarly, Toy Poodles can get emotionally upset if there's too much activity or conflict or roughhousing in your household -- they prefer a peaceful environment.
